Berlin photos

Berlin was our first stop from Copenhagen. We wanted to leave on Friday morning, around 0730 (10th oct) by an express train that goes directly from Copenhagen to Berlin, but unfortunately there were no seats available, so we have to leave on Friday morning around 0200. We have to change trains 3 times in Fredericia, Podburg and Hamburg and our sleep was terribly interrupted, especially in Fredericia where it was extremely chilly. However, things went well and our hostel in Berlin was the best and the cheapest of all. :)

Berlin is the capital city of Germany, traces of past century's Nazi and communist regimes remain visible and I believe they have been etched into the residents' minds. Remnants of the Berlin wall still survive in a few places such as in Potsdamer Platz, near the Haus Am Checkpoint Charlie.

Brandenburger Tor. Built as a tribute to 18th century peace, this gate at the heart of Pariser Pl. came to symbolise the city's division. After serving as the memorable back drop for the fall of the Berlin wall, the fate is now the most powerful emblem of reunited Germany.

Berliner Dom. It is Berlin's most recognisable landmark, this multi-domed cathedral proves that protestants can be as dramatic as catholics. Built during the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II, the dom suffered damage in 1944 air raid and onlu recently emerged after 3 decades of restoration
